9/9/2024 — My friends, a lot has been going on in the career part of my life! I’ve just moved across the country to NYC and started a full-time internship at a children's hospital. The last few weeks have been good, but hectic to say the least.
I try to keep these emails upbeat, and I work hard to vary the things I talk about. But even then, I can’t deny that I’m struggling to balance real life with my author life. It should be simple: spend most of my time on the thing that will be my job and save my free time on weekends and evenings for everything writing. That’s the goal and the plan… the reality is, unfortunately, different.
I want to write because I love it. I want to post on social media because I make connections with readers and other authors. I want to edit so that I can finally publish this first book. Finding time to sit down and focus on either has felt impossible as of late. Everything right now and the last two years have been focused on the big things: grad school, moving, internship.
Logically, I know that officially finishing my book is on my schedule—that’s a major plus of self-publishing. Illogically, I’m impatient.
So there’s my little bit of candor this lovely Monday. I hope you're all working to find the balance.
Much love and happy reading,
Gail ❤
